Demon Attack

Scene from my book redone:
She suddenly heard faint footsteps pattering the ground but no other means of life could issue itself in the darkness, fear overtook her entire being. She felt around on her hands and knees, quickly for her staff. Her fingers suddenly stumbled upon it and she struggled to pick it up, as it touched her fingers, it flickered to light, the light faced the ground. She scrambled to get up to face her light north; the creature was clearly seen by the light. It stood as a human; bare and skinless. Its very skeleton could be seen through the maggots and clumps of flesh, it looked like a walking corpse, though it was very alien in its features and it was somewhat warped and deformed, like a demon.
It walked in haphazard yet powerful strides as it came toward the light, April unconsciously backed away from it. It then disappeared suddenly and April was left completely startled to the point of shattering into a million pieces.
